"Welcome to the Carmaker Toyota!" President Sato's Message to New Employees

2024.04.09

This year, 1,892 recruits participated in Toyota's entrance ceremony, where President Sato shared "the most important thing" for new employees.

Carmaking needs diversity

President Sato

As you embark on your careers at Toyota, I want you to set your sights on becoming carmaking professionals.

To that end, I would like you to be mindful of three things.

The first is developing a love for cars.

At Toyota, our management is centered around products. We want to bring smiles to many people through our cars, and to make the cars we love more beneficial to the world.

I believe that such passion is the driving force for making ever-better cars, and for changing the future of cars.

I think it is good for us to have many different people who love cars. When I started at Toyota, car lovers were those who drove sports cars like the Supra or Celica.

Personally, I still put myself in that category.

But today, we have more diverse values, and that diversity is essential for the future of carmaking.

Starting today, I want you to explore and drive many different cars, to experience the diverse values and fun that cars can offer. In the process, I hope you will find your own unique relationship with cars, and harness this in your work.

The second point is to discover the joy of carmaking.

We build something that does not yet exist in the world, something that can be useful to others. This makes the job of carmaking very meaningful.

From the people who develop cars, parts, and software, to the plant workers who produce them, the people working in sales, HR, and accounting, and those keeping us healthy and safe—carmaking relies on all of their efforts.

And as a mobility company, we will engage with cars in increasingly diverse ways. There are countless opportunities for you to draw on your unique sensibilities and perspectives.

I hope you will engage with your roles, hone your expertise, and discover the joy of making cars.
