2023.04.14

What was President Sato's message at Toyota's first entrance ceremony under its new leadership team? And what special surprise did the carmaker have in store?

The key for Toyota today

President Sato

Once again, today marks the start of your days at carmaker Toyota. The first thing I hope to instill in you is the joy of making cars.

Working with colleagues and your own hands, you can create something that doesn’t yet exist.

Creating something new can be challenging. Beyond that hard work and dedication, however, are smiling customers. Therein lies the true joy and satisfaction of making cars.

Carmaking is a team effort.

Everyone plays their part: the people who develop the cars, those who build them in our plants, those working in sales, human resources, and accounting, as well as those who look after the health and wellbeing of team members.

I hope that each of you will discover the joy of carmaking for yourself, while remaining conscious of the role you play.

The unwavering core of our work at Toyota is a dedication to making ever-better cars.

Over the past 13 years, we have remained focused on relentlessly refining the essential qualities of cars.

When it comes to making ever-better cars, there is no finish line. I want to continue creating cars that are safe, comfortable, and fun to drive.

Likewise, I encourage all of you to fine-tune your sensors by engaging with and driving many cars, experiencing firsthand the value that real cars offer. This is the first step to enjoying carmaking.

From this foundation, we will seek to transform ourselves into a mobility company that, through cars, delivers the value of mobility to the world.

Thinking of our planet’s future, we want to create a future mobility society where everyone can freely enjoy moving in comfort. Our challenge is to create new value in mobility by using electrification, connectivity, and autonomous driving technology to make cars an integral part of social systems.

In order for cars to continue being regarded as a necessary part of society, we must also tackle the enormous task of pursuing carbon neutrality.

To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, we will continue striving to create a mobility society with diverse options.

Cars are at the heart of our transformation into a mobility company. By integrating cars with the movement of everything from people and goods to information and energy, we will be able to deliver entirely new services.

Spurring such an evolution in cars will lead us to the future mobility that the world needs. That’s why we believe that carmakers can uniquely shape the future of mobility.

The key to this transformation is innovation, the forward-looking dynamism born of diverse values.

The Toyota of today is a company that prizes diversity.

For that reason, I don’t want you to feel daunted by being newcomers—embrace your unique insights and the things that make you who you are.
