The mobile hydrogen sauna we featured a year ago has evolved in a surprising new direction. Called the Hydrogen Sauna Boat, it lets you cruise around a lake in Jyväskylä while enjoying a sauna.

Once you've warmed up, dive straight into the lake for the ultimate way to unwind in Finland, a mecca for sauna lovers.

A project has been launched to power everything with hydrogen, including the sauna’s heat source, the boat's propulsion system, and even the onboard BBQ grill.

Since everything is powered by hydrogen, there's no engine noise or smell of exhaust, just the sound of waves and wind as you glide across the lake and unwind in silence. The Hydrogen Sauna Boat makes this extraordinary experience possible.

Development of the hydrogen sauna boat is still in the “shakedown” stage, with challenges remaining before it is ready for everyday use. Still, the team's efforts have steadily advanced to the next stage, including a demonstration project for a "hydrogen house," where hydrogen provides energy for all aspects of living.

Cefmof also visited Fukushima and Yamanashi prefectures along with the mayor of Jyväskylä. They toured the Netz Toyota Koriyama branch, which uses fuel cells to power its dealership, and exchanged views with the staff there. Both sides candidly discussed the shared challenge of making hydrogen-related initiatives commercially viable and are exploring how to move from demonstration to business.
