In our fourth episode, Chairman Akio Toyoda talks about recent news, from the acclaimed novel Sons of Toyota to his own reappointment to the board of directors.
To Toyota athletes: “Go out there and win”
Tomikawa
Before we go, let’s completely change the topic and talk about the upcoming Olympic Games.
Once again, some 160 GTTAs (Global Team Toyota Athletes) from around the world are participating this year. As chairman, could you share your hopes and a message of support?
Toyoda
Rather than speak as chairman, I would like to send the team a message as Morizo, a fellow athlete.
All athletes want to be No.1 in their field. That’s why I always tell them, “Go out there and win.”
It doesn’t matter if you lose, but we want to win. And as the “father” of this team, I want to see them at their best. With the competition about to start, just go out there and win.
Our global athletes will be representing Japan and their respective countries.
As Toyota athletes, they share the same spirit and may even help each other out in the athletes’ village when the need arises.
But above all, they are unyielding competitors, so I’m telling them to go out and win in their fields. Those are my words of support.
Tomikawa
To our athletes: we hope to see many medals when you return home.
Toyoda
We’re cheering you on!
Tomikawa
That brings us to the end. Once again, the time has flown today. Thank you very much, Morizo.
Toyoda
Thank you.
