Creators Shine a Spotlight on Toyota's FACTORY HEROES

2026.07.22

TOYOTA DIRECTORSCUT brings Toyota and creators together to produce new works. How did short films portraying the people who work at Toyota's plants as "heroes" resonate with those on the plant floor?

TOYOTA DIRECTORSCUT is a co-creation project that gives creators free rein to produce works inspired by Toyota and the mobility industry.

Previous installments have featured themes such as the Yaris Series, Global Team Toyota Athletes (GTTA), and Super Formula. For its fourth installment, FACTORY HEROES, the project turns the spotlight on Toyota’s plants—the frontlines of its monozukuri, or carmaking.

The setting is Motomachi Plant, which has supported Toyota’s carmaking for 70 years since producing the first Crown. Using footage provided from the plant, creators from across Japan produced short films of one minute or less.

The entries were judged not only by professional creators, but also by employees working on the floor at Motomachi Plant, who saw how their own work had been portrayed on screen.

Even with the same footage, different creators can produce entirely different films. What ideas and emotions went into the winning entries? And how did people on the plant floor respond to seeing their work portrayed through the lens of “heroes”?
