After Fuji, Partnerships Begin to Spread Beyond Super Taikyu

2023.12.14

This season, the number of like-minded companies working to create a carbon-neutral society continued to grow through Super Taikyu. We caught up with some of those enjoying themselves while earnestly pursuing carbon neutrality.

Honda FCEV debuts at Super Taikyu

For Honda, the season’s final round offered a backdrop for the domestic premier of its CR-V FCEV, scheduled to launch in 2024. Despite the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW being held at Tokyo Big Sight just a week earlier, the carmaker chose Super Taikyu as the venue for the unveiling.

This model is an FCEV that generates electricity from hydrogen fuel, yet also features plug-in recharging.

The CR-V’s hood was personally signed by Morizo, who dropped by the display booth during the race, with the moment captured on Toyota’s official X account.

In this way, the venue was packed with booths set up by companies working together for a carbon-neutral society.

Why are more people jumping on board?

With each year, the number of like-minded partners continues to rise. Chairman Akio Toyoda explained this momentum at Toyota’s entrance ceremony in 2022, back when he was president.

Chairman Akio Toyoda

Let’s just try it. That’s how the challenge began, gradually becoming an endeavor around which people gather. We could never have imagined it when first starting out.

Why is it that more like-minded partners wanted to work with us?

Of course, they have embraced our ambition of creating a carbon-neutral society through hydrogen. But even more so, I believe it was the way we enjoy ourselves while earnestly tackling serious problems.

If I were to add a tenth to the Nine Reasons that People Gather,” it would be this: “People gather where joy abounds.”

Find enjoyment in all that you do. That may sound obvious, but when it comes to working at a company, I consider it very important.

Akio’s words are backed by the numbers: the eight pioneers who set out to chase carbon neutrality in 2021 have, by the end of the 2023 Super Taikyu season, become a fellowship of 45 companies.
